Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to work in an industry that I love, Design is what gets me up in the mornings (well, the morning that I don’t have wine flu that is) and while fashion and textiles were my first loves I look on 10 years (Yep- OMG time has flown) after studying and am glad I chose the career path that I did.

I was walking through Parap markets yesterday and someone reminded me how long I had been back in Darwin for and it really got me reflecting on all of the places I have been and the work I have done over the years that I haven’t documented or even photographed and it got me thinking that I need to start archiving everything so that I can look back on it when I forget the little everyday jobs as every piece of work I do is special to me in some way or another.  I have decided I am going to try to get into textile design, I love colour and drawing so I think I need to focus on that for awhile and try something new. Wish me luck I will probably still be talking about starting it at christmas time. :O

Here are some inspiring textile chicks who I follow and dream of one day being like:

Aunty Cookie (A Melbourne based textile freak- quite hilarious and one of my have blogs although she has very rudely stopped blogging now just when I started following her)

Caitlin Wilson – I want this chicks life (minus the small children maybe)

6 hands design (so 3 people incase you missed that)

And if that isn’t enough inspo for you here’s 5 more ‘Badass’ female creatives … I can’t get enough of creative types.

So anyway, other peoples lives aside- here’s what I have been doing this week:

  • Lots of sketching
  • Meeting with a lovely new fabric rep – Mokum textiles will be appearing in my work very soon
  • Lots of driving to and from tile shops (I might add this is not my favourite part of the design process)
  • Emailing (again, not a fun part)
  • Selecting exterior colours (Now you are talking, I like this part)
  • Selecting kitchen finishes and fittings (Even better, I love this part)
  • Selecting artwork (It gets better again!)
  • Drinking wine to celebrate another house finished and ready for handover- winning at life!

Mokum- I love it all, James Dunlop is new to me (a New Zealand based company) with some lovely textiles I plan on using

AND here is a what is on my desktop at the moment (a mix of exterior paints I have used, fashion colours I am working on, textiles I just love, homes, rooms or spaces I admire)- I am very easily inspired!:
