Things have picked up again here at Lady Darwin Design and I feel positive about the rest of the year and of making enough money to not just survive but to actually grow and make changes within the business that I have wanted to do for a long time. I am quoting more and more and have enough new houses to do this month to keep me out of trouble 😉
I have had a few calls and emails recently from people wanting to come and work for me, which seems to happen every dry season… new people move to Darwin and come asking for a job, usually full of experience and sounding like lovely creative types but at this stage I cannot afford to hire any help and will have to continue juggling on my own until the day comes when I finally expand and madly scramble for like minded folk to join me in my design dream … but I feel like I have a few years before that happens so time is on my side.
Me aside, there has been much happening in the design world with the Salone Del Mobile Milano (AKA The Milan furniture fair) a few weeks ago and I have only just had time to dissect it.
Here is what I am loving, who designed it or where you can get it from. Don’t say I never give you anything cos this stuff is like design GOLD!
Like classics? I adore classical furniture. “The “Before Design: Classic” exhibition-event – art direction by Ciarmoli Queda Studio – is a reflection on the classical essence of contemporary living, unfolding among spectacular displays and theatrical installations. The core of the exhibition is the short film by multi-award winning filmmaker Matteo Garrone discussing classic Made in Italy taste and its currency in an audio and visual narration.” Read and watch here.
From sinks to sofa, tables to toilets and vanities to vases it was all on show but here are my favourites:
If my picks aren’t enough for you you can check out what the stylish folk at Vogue have selected as their picks of the show here.
Or if you are like me and cannot get enough of what is up and coming in style you can read what ‘The Cut’ had to say about the whole fair business here too.
The latest and greatest from Kartell.. these folk are always glamorous. The latest gossip (presented with a stylin accent) by design legend himself – Mr Philippe Starck. Milan fair highlights through the eyes of James Richardson furniture gave me a good overview of what is new. Eurocucina presented my favourite item of the show …the height adjustable kitchen island bench.. Gimmick or latest must have item ? you be the judge.
Want to look at more sexy products? Me too, here you go.
One last link, as a tribute to the beginning of May – This gorgeous farmhouse that was the set from the show “The darling buds of May’ check it out in all of its lovely rustic style here. Yes, I come across the strangest things while design browsing.
Right that’s all for now, it is another long weekend here in Darwin so I’m off beach walking, market wandering, lunching and generally stuffing myself through the weekend ‘cos thats what time off is all about to me!
Happy weekend to you!
