What do you get when you cross a fashion and colour obsessed interior designer with a penchant for quirky weirdo objects and a nosey parker sticky beak? Me.
I had to sum up my style to someone for an online interview this week and that is about how best I could describe myself when asked where I get my inspiration from.
I would estimate that for 90% of the design work that I do my inspiration comes from everyday things that I see. I get up early, I walk and spend time in natural morning and evening, I am constantly in pursuit of prettiness and the things that I see during my day I photograph or save images of as I come across them and I am always on the hunt for colour inspiration. When I see a flower fall to the ground I notice how the colour of the delicate petals contrasts against the concrete of the footpath… I stop and I drink that all in with my eyes, If I have my phone on me I whip that out and take a snap to remind myself how it all came together and I rush home and get my swatches out and quickly match it.
(The other 10% comes to me at the 11th hour of a project being due when I suddenly get a glimpse of how it is all coming together and my creativity really sets in to overdrive. )
I saw a lady in a beautiful bright dress getting into a blue car and I stared at the colour combination as the last of her skirt slipped in the closing door and thought ‘Yep, totally going to replicate that look!’
I saw a decaying leaf clinging to a drain pipe and marvelled at the rust colour against the moss green pipe…Yep used that colour combo on a home just afew days ago. Inspiration is everywhere to those of us who are both blessed and cursed with a creative mind.
